SGS NEWS - The Feast of All Saints

* The Feast of All Saints
Sunday, November 1. High Mass at 2:00 pm, to be celebrated
by The Reverend John Ringley. Music for this festive service
to be performed by the full Schola Cantorum of the Saint
Gregory Society, will include William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices,
polyphonic motets by Byrd and Robert Parsons, and the proper
Gregorian chants. The second offering will be to help defray the
utilities expenses at St. Stanislaus Church.

Please note that owing to a conflict with parish activities scheduled
at St. Stanislaus Church before the Latin Mass in New Haven was
moved from Sacred Heart Church, the Feast of All Souls will not
be celebrated for the St. Gregrory Society in a Latin Requiem Mass
this season. We will hope to resume the observance of this Feast
in the traditional liturgy next season.

* The Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, November 8. Low Mass at 2:00 pm, to be celebrated
by The Reverend Michael Mauriello, St. Roch, Greenwich.

SAINT GREGORY SOCIETY FINDS NEW HOME
AT SAINT STANISLAUS CHURCH

Sunday, 13 September, was a day of great joy for our friends and members in attendance at the first Mass offered in our new home: Saint Stanislaus Church in New Haven. The Mass of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was celebrated on the eve of this great feast–also the second anniversary of the implementation of the Holy Father’s motu proprio “Summorum Pontificum,” an historic turning-point for Tradition in the faith and practice of the Universal Church.

The splendid Polish Baroque edifice that is St. Stanislaus Church provided the perfect setting for the ceremonies of Solemn Mass and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament that were celebrated with a large congregation present. The Rev. John Ringley celebrated the Mass assisted by the Rev. Richard Cipolla and Mr. Jeffrey Collins as deacon and subdeacon, respectively. The music of the liturgy, sung by the Society’s full Schola Cantorum included the Missa O Quam Gloriosum of Victoria and motets by Palestrina and their contemporary Polish composer Mikolaj Zelinski. The service concluded with a beautiful hymn to Our Lady, Protectress of Holy Mother Church, sung in Polish.

The Pastor, The Rev. Roman Kmiec, C.M., delivered an inspiring welcome to the Society and all there present, assuring us that we are part of the parish community where the priests of the Vincentian order stand ready to minister to all our sacramental and spiritual needs. We learned just today that a number of our group have already signed on as new St. Stanislaus parishioners.

The reception that followed provided a splendid repast, bringing together people of the parish and all newcomers in an atmosphere of common interests shared and high-spirited conviviality. We should all offer prayers of thanksgiving to Almighty God and our gratitude to the St. Stanislaus community for helping make possible a vigorous new beginning in the continued life of the Saint Gregory Society and its apostolate.
