SGS NEWS - Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

*Seventeenth Suday after Pentecost
Sunday, September 27. High Mass at 2:00 p.m. to be celebrated
by the Reverend Michael Mauriello, St. Roch, Greenwich.
Music to be performed by the Chant Schola of the Society will
include Vatican Mass VIII (”Missa de Angelis”); the plainsong
hymn to the Sacred Heart, “Cor arca legem;” the Eurcharistic
responsory, “Unus panis;” and the proper Gregorian chants
of the day.

* Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi
Sunday, October 4th. Low Mass at 2:00 pm to be celebrated
by The Reverend Stanley Miekina, C.M., of St. Stanislaus Parish,
offered for the intentions of the St. Stanislaus Fraternity of the
Third Order of St. Francis.

The Third Order of St. Francis was established at St. Stanislaus Church
on September 1, 1924. It was primarily a Polish speaking Fraternity.
On July 13, 1958 a number of people transferred from St. Casimir’s
and formed an English speaking Fraternity. On the Feast of the
Most Holy Name of Mary, September 12, 1971, the Fraternity was
rededicated.

The Fraternity consists of those who wish to strive after holiness
according to the charism of St. Francis. Secular Franciscans,
as they are called now, strive to attend daily Mass, recite an office
(it can be The Divine Office, The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, or 12 Our Fathers, 12 Hail Marys, and 12 Glory Be to the
Fathers.) Members promise to say grace before and after meals,
examine their conscience each night, and contribute according
to their means for the charities of the order. The Fraternity
supports a family in India and a seminarian at Holy Apostles
in Cromwell. Members seek to build up Christ’s Church.
Their Spiritual Assistants at Saint Stanislaus parish have
always been the Vincentian Fathers. The primary feast of
their order is October 4th, the Feast of Our Holy Founder,
St. Francis of Assisi. Mary Welborn, parish administrative
assistant at St. Stanislaus Church, is the current Minister
Praefect of the Fraternity.
