SGS News - Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

The Saint Gregory Society is pleased to announce that the Feast of
Christ the King (Sunday, October 26th) will be observed this year at
St. Mary’s Church in downtown New Haven, with a traditional Latin Mass
at 12:00 Noon. Please note the changes in time and location for this
Mass. The full Schola Cantorum of the Society will perform choral
works of the great Renaissance masters Palestrina and Josquin DesPrez,
and all the Gregorian chants of this magnificent feast. During the
past year the celebration of the “Extraordinary Form” of the Mass has
expanded greatly the world over in response to Pope Benedict’s Motu
proprio “Summorum Pontificum”. This will be the first time in 40 years
that the older form of the Roman Liturgy has been offered for Sunday
Mass at St. Mary’s — an historic occasion, both in the life of St.
Mary’s parish and for the New Haven Catholic community at large. The
Society is of course very grateful that the pastor of St. Mary’s
Church, Fr. Joseph Allen, has extended us this special opportunity. In
view of the importance of this event, there will be no 2:00pm Latin
Mass at Sacred Heart on October 26th. More details will be forthcoming
over the next few weeks.

Our schedule for the next two Sundays is as follows:

* Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, October 12th. High Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated.
by Fr. John Ringley (St. Lawrence, Shelton). The chant schola
will sing the “Missa Marialis” (drawn from Vatican Masses IX
and X), plainsong anthems at offertory and communion
(”O Quam glorifica” and “Homo quidam”), and all the proper
Gregorian chants. The second offering will go to support the
work of the Saint Gregory Society.

* Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, October 19th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. John Ringley (St. Lawrence, Shelton).

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).
