SGS News - Fourth Sunday in Lent (Laetare)

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

This Sunday is a day many of us have been looking forward to
for quite some time. Solemn Mass — a first for our newest
celebrant, Fr. Boyd! — will be adorned with specially solemn music,
thanks to the generous gift of long-time member of the Society,
Christine M. Beach. Per her request, the Holy Sacrifice will be
offered for all those who are estranged from the Catholic Church.
Please bring family and friends, and join us in prayer that day for
this worthy intention. And afterwards, join us next door for a light
reception, where you are guaranteed to have a good time with all
of your friends and fellow-supporters of the Society’s mission!

Our calendar for the next two Sundays is as follows.

* Fourth Sunday in Lent (Laetare)
Sunday, March 2nd. Solemn Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Robert Boyd (St. Mary’s, Greenwich); the deacon and
homilist will be Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The
full Schola Cantorum will sing Josquin’s Missa Pange lingua,
motets by Allegri (the “Miserere”) and Tallis, and all of the
proper Gregorian chants. After Mass all are encouraged to
join us next door in the old convent building for coffee, tea, and
cake. The second collection will go to support Sacred Heart
Church (monthly utilities).

* Passion Sunday
Sunday, March 9th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).

SGS News Extra - Laetare Sunday at Sacred Heart Church

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

A special occasion merits a special announcement. Laetare Sunday
(March 2nd) will be observed with a Solemn Mass this year, and thanks
to the generous benefaction of Christine M. Beach, the full Schola
Cantorum of the Society will assist, singing some of the most
memorable sacred music ever written, including the Miserere of
Gregorio Allegri and the Missa Pange lingua of Josquin des Prez. Ms.
Beach has asked that the Mass be offered for all those who are
estranged from the Catholic Church. We probably all know people who
meet this description, so please make an effort to come and join us in
prayer for this important intention! Further details will follow in
tomorrow’s regular email bulletin.

The Officers of the Society wish to take this opportunity to express
once again our deep gratitude to Ms. Beach and to all of our
benefactors for their ever generous support of its mission in the
cause of the traditional liturgy and sacred music.
