SGS News - The Purification of the BVM (Candlemas)

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

As per our usual custom, Candlemas will be observed this
Sunday as an external solemnity. This year Easter is as early
as it can possibly be — once the candles are extinguished
we will almost be into Lent! So make good use of the remaining
days of Christmastide, and join us this Sunday for what will be
a joyous commemoration of its passing! “Lord, now lettest Thou
Thy servant depart in peace… For mine eyes have seen Thy
salvation….”

Note that there will be no traditional Mass on Ash Wednesday
in New Haven.

Our calendar for the next two Sundays is as follows:

* The Purification of the BVM (Candlemas)
Sunday, February 3rd. High Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The men’s Schola
will sing the Missa de Angelis, motets by Monteverdi, Victoria,
and Salazar, and all the proper Gregorian chants. The second
collection will be for Sacred Heart Church (monthly utilities).

* First Sunday in Lent
Sunday, February 10th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).

SGS News - The Epiphany of the Lord

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

It seldom happens that Epiphany falls on a Sunday. In
celebration of this happy coincidence we have revised our
plans for this Sunday’s Mass — a larger schola will sing a
“new” Gregorian ordinary and a couple of polyphonic motets.
Please join us for this special occasion as we “come to
pay Him homage”!

Our calendar for the next two Sundays is as follows:

* The Epiphany of Our Lord
Sunday, January 6th. High Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The men’s
Schola will sing Mass II (”Kyrie fons bonitatis”), motets by
Clemens non Papa and Guerrero, and all the proper Gregorian
chants. The second collection is for the benefit of the parish
(monthly utilities).

* The Holy Family
Sunday, January 13th. High Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The chant
Schola will sing Mass IX (”Cum jubilo”), plainsong hymns,
and all the proper Gregorian chants.

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).
