SGS News - Twenty-Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

Last Sunday’s anniversary Mass was a tremendous success
in every way. Some 200 people participated devotedly from the
Asperges to the Adoremus, and so many of you remained
afterwards for the reception that we could have filled the room
twice over! The music was stunning, the sermon inspiring, and
Marie Reynolds’ hospitality the equal to it all. If you haven’t yet
noticed it, there was a wonderful comment on the occasion in
the New Liturgical Movement blog by Fr. Thomas Kocik, who
was attending in choir:

The only proper response to success is gratitude. A special word
of thanks is due to all of you who took the time to come to the
Mass and support the Society’s mission by your presence and
your prayers. In some respects, twenty-one years is quite a long
time, and yet with your continued assistance we can all hopefully
come to see it as just the beginning of something much greater,
one of the tiny mustard seeds from which the “Benedictine reform”
of the liturgy will spring forth in this corner of the world.

Finally, the Officers of the Society are delighted to report that, as
a result of your generosity in the second offering last Sunday, the
majority of the expense of our anniversary Mass has already been
recovered. This is perhaps a good time to reiterate that the Saint
Gregory Society is run on a purely volunteer basis for the benefit
of its members. Every single penny of your donations in support
our common work is used to sustain the traditional Mass in New
Haven and to promote it further afield through our series of
recordings and publications. Hence our successes are yours,
too, so together we should say: Te Deum laudamus!

Our schedule for the next two Sundays is as follows:

* Twenty-Fifth Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, November 18th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield). The second
collection is a special Archdiocesan collection in support of
the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

* TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS IN WATERBURY
In order to assist our friends in the Waterbury area who are
trying to organize a regular traditional Mass there under the
provisions of the Motu proprio “Summorum Pontificum”, we
would like to bring to your attention a special Mass taking
place this Sunday, November 18th, at 6pm in Immaculate
Conception Church (74 West Main St.). Fr. Richard Cipolla
will be the celebrant and seminarians from the Society of
Saint John Cantius will chant.

* Twenty-Sixth and Last Sunday after Pentecost
Sunday, November 25th. Solemn Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. Greg Markey (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The chant Schola
will sing Mass XI (”Orbis factor”), plainsong hymns, and all of the
proper Gregorian chants.

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).
