SGS News - St. Michael the Archangel (Michaelmas)

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

As you heard last week, there will be a Solemn Mass this
Sunday at Sacred Heart Church, with special music that has
rarely been heard since the death of Palestrina at the end of
the sixteenth century. Moreover, a joyous reception is planned
for after the Mass, since this great occasion of the coming into
effect of the Holy Father’s Motu proprio (on September 14th)
ought to be marked not only by liturgical splendor but also with
feasting and good fun! Please plan to come to this glorious
Mass, bring your family and a few good friends as well, and be
sure to join us afterwards for what promises to be a memorable
celebration.

Our schedule for the next two Sundays is as follows:

* St. Michael the Archangel (Michaelmas)
Sunday, September 30th. Solemn High Mass at 2pm, to be
celebrated by Fr. Greg Markey (St. Mary’s, Norwalk). The full
Schola Cantorum of the Society will perform Palestrina’s
Missa “Sacerdos et Pontifex” (in honor of the Holy Father!),
motets by Palestrina, and all the proper Gregorian chants for
Michaelmas. You are cordially invited to the reception to be
given in the former convent adjacent to Sacred Heart Church
immediately following the Mass. The second offering is for the
benefit of the Saint Gregory Society.

* The Most Holy Rosary of Our Lady
Sunday, October 7th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated
by Fr. John Ringley (St. Lawrence, Shelton).

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).
