SGS News - Pentecost
Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,
Sometimes it is easy to forget just how significant the feast of
Pentecost is. Until the changes introduced after the Second
Vatican Council, it was easily understood to have the same
liturgical “rank” as Easter Sunday: it possessed its own octave,
its own impressive antiquity, its own theological richness and
spiritual depth, to which the Sequence at Mass gives voice with
such beauty and directness.
Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate this great pillar of the
Church’s calendar, and indeed the very birth of the Church. A
reception will follow the Mass, to which all are cordially invited to
come. We look forward to seeing you there!
* Pentecost
Sunday, May 27th. High Mass at 2pm to be celebrated by
Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Stamford). The full Schola
Cantorum will sing Palestrina’s Missa Angelus Domini, motets
by Gascogne (”Caritas Dei”) and Palestrina (”Loquebantur variis
linguis”), and the all the proper Gregorian chants. The reception
afterward will be given in the former convent adjacent to the
church. The second offering at this Mass will be for the benefit of
the Saint Gregory Society.
* The Most Holy Trinity
Sunday, May 20th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated by
Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).
ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).
