SGS News - Trinity Sunday

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

Many thanks to all who attended Mass at Sacred Heart Church
on Pentecost. Many of you have remarked how moved you were
by the ceremonies, and it is safe to say that everyone had a
great time at the reception afterwards. Let us continue to pray for
Pope Benedict, that we will soon have more reason to celebrate
like that again!

Our calendar for the next two weeks is as follows:

* The Most Holy Trinity
Sunday, June 3rd. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated by
Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).

* Corpus Christi
Sunday, June 10th. High Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated by
Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Stamford). The men’s Schola
will sing the Missa de Angelis, some motets appropriate for
the feast, and all the proper Gregorian chants.

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).

SGS News - Pentecost

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,

Sometimes it is easy to forget just how significant the feast of
Pentecost is. Until the changes introduced after the Second
Vatican Council, it was easily understood to have the same
liturgical “rank” as Easter Sunday: it possessed its own octave,
its own impressive antiquity, its own theological richness and
spiritual depth, to which the Sequence at Mass gives voice with
such beauty and directness.

Please join us this Sunday as we celebrate this great pillar of the
Church’s calendar, and indeed the very birth of the Church. A
reception will follow the Mass, to which all are cordially invited to
come. We look forward to seeing you there!

* Pentecost
Sunday, May 27th. High Mass at 2pm to be celebrated by
Fr. Richard Cipolla (St. Mary’s, Stamford). The full Schola
Cantorum will sing Palestrina’s Missa Angelus Domini, motets
by Gascogne (”Caritas Dei”) and Palestrina (”Loquebantur variis
linguis”), and the all the proper Gregorian chants. The reception
afterward will be given in the former convent adjacent to the
church. The second offering at this Mass will be for the benefit of
the Saint Gregory Society.

* The Most Holy Trinity
Sunday, May 20th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated by
Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).

ALL MASSES TAKE PLACE IN SACRED HEART CHURCH,
NEW HAVEN (COLUMBUS AVENUE AT LIBERTY STREET,
NEAR UNION STATION).

SGS News - Sunday after the Ascension

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,Thanks largely to the response to the recently instituted
second collection during the High Mass at Sacred Heart we
are pleased to announce a special High Mass for the feast
of Pentecost at which the full Schola Cantorum of the
Society will perform. This represents a notable expansion
of our activities in comparison with the past few years, and it
is a direct consequence of your faithful support of our
common work. Needless to say, we are very grateful to God
for this, and hope that you can join us at Mass that day to
give thanks. Please bring a friend along, and plan to stay
for a while afterwards, when Marie Reynolds will host a
reception for all. The last one on Palm Sunday was a great
success, with plenty of good food and drink and enjoyable
conversation, and this one promises to be the same. For
more details about Pentecost at Sacred Heart see below.
And kindly help us to publicize this Mass by distributing the
attached poster to friends and family, and putting it up in
your local parish church!

Our calendar for the next two weeks is as follows:

* Sunday after the Ascension
Sunday, May 20th. Low Mass at 2pm, to be celebrated by
Fr. Kevin Fitzpatrick (Holy Cross, Fairfield).

linguis”), and the all the proper Gregorian chants. The Society
cordially invites you to a reception to be given in the former
convent adjacent to the church immediately following the Mass.
