SGS News - Good Friday & Easter Sunday
Dear Friend of the Saint Gregory Society,
As is in years past, both Good Friday and Easter Sunday will be
observed in the traditional Roman rite this Holy Week in Sacred Heart
Church, New Haven.
The Good Friday Liturgy will take place at 11am (not at 12pm, as in
some previous years). The Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Richard
Cipolla, of St. Mary’s Church in Stamford. The men’s Schola will sing
all the proper Gregorian chants, as well as Victoria’s Reproaches and
motets by Palestrina and Compere.
Mass on Easter Sunday will be at our usual 2pm time. The celebrant
will be the pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Fr. Jim Richardson. The
full mixed Schola Cantorum will sing Palestrina’s Missa Regina caeli,
motets by Verdelot and Gascogne, and all the proper Gregorian chants.
Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will follow.
I am attaching a poster with details of these liturgies. If you can
pass it on to a friend or post it in a public place (e.g. your local
parish church!) you will be doing us a great favor. Finally, I would
ask each of you to remember the Society and our work in your prayers
at this special time of grace. Unless you are abstaining from the
media for Lent, you must know by now that the Motu Proprio of the Holy
Father is on the way. From this perspective, the date is not really
that important — after all, many of us have been waiting for forty
years already! What is important is that we do what we can to seize
the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which this will present. With God’s
assistance, each one of us and the Society as a whole can hope to be
instruments of good in the times ahead.
Many thanks to those of you who were in attendance on Palm Sunday, and
best wishes to all for a blessed Holy Week and a joyful Easter.
